UGA Miracles Dance Marathon 2010
Saturday was a very, very special day for us! I had the privilege of taking Maggie and Josh to the University of Georgia for a dance marathon raising money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The entire day was so special in so many different ways.
First, just the honor of being asked to tell Maggie’s story to hundreds of college students who had worked so hard raising money for CHOA was amazing. These students made this fundraiser amazing! I was impressed beyond words!
Second, we had the most WONDERFUL sponsor. Her name is Naeha, and we adored her beyond words. Her roommate, Megan, is the daughter of one of my friends at work! That was so cool because Megan spent the entire day with us too! Then, another friend, Sarah, also spent the day with us! They were awesome with Maggie and Josh! Had I known I was going to have so much help, I would have brought Evie. I just knew I couldn’t handle three alone for an entire day, so I only took Josh and Maggie. They are the two who have benefitted most from CHOA. I still feel pretty bad about leaving Evie at home………
Third, we got to meet so many other amazing families! I loved hearing each of their stories. It really is amazing how many families’ lives have been affected by traumatic events. They were all such inspirations to me. In fact, it was amazing how many of these families come year after year to share their stories.
Fourth, we met so many incredible students. I do have to admit it was weird being “the mother” of one of the miracle kids. I’m still supposed to be one of the students. How did this happen? I digress. Every student we met was wonderful. I adored spending the day with Naeha, Megan, and Sarah. I hope we get to see them again! We also met another triplet after telling Maggie’s story. He was one of the students participating in the dance marathon. He is one of a set of fraternal boy/boy/boy triplets! He was one the kindest guy. It was so nice to see a triplet who has turned out so well. Josh liked him a lot too!
Then entire day was just so special. The students raised a little more than $250,000! That is so amazing!!!! Go Dawgs! Go Children’s!
I love you all.
